Mobile Applications
This section applies to mobile applications published by Universole LLC, including Shadow Work: Voice Journal, on the Apple App Store and Google Play. Where it conflicts with the rest of this policy, this section governs for app users.
What the app records
Shadow Work records audio only when you choose to record. Nothing is captured in the background, and the microphone is used only while a recording is in progress.
What leaves your device, and why
To turn a recording into something useful, two things are sent out:
- The audio file is sent to the OpenAI API, which returns a text transcript.
- That transcript is sent to the Anthropic API, which returns a title, a summary, observations, the theme the entry belongs to, anything you said you would do, and one line worth keeping. When you have several entries, transcripts from the past thirty days are sent together so the app can name what recurs across them.
Both are standard commercial API calls. Under the current terms of both providers, data submitted through their APIs is not used to train their models. Each provider may retain submitted data briefly for abuse monitoring, in line with their own policies, which are linked at the end of this section. Nothing else about a recording is transmitted, and recordings are not sent anywhere else.
What stays on your device
The recording, its transcript, the extracted results, your practice items, your themes and your settings are stored locally on your device. We do not operate a server that stores your entries, and we cannot read them. Because your entries are stored only on your device, deleting the app deletes them. We have no copy to restore.
What we do not collect
The app has no account system and no sign in. If you enter a name or choose a photo, both stay on your device and are never transmitted. There is no analytics SDK, no crash reporting SDK, and no advertising or tracking framework in the app. We do not build a profile of you, and we do not sell or share personal information.
Reminders are scheduled locally on your device. The app does not register for push notifications and does not transmit a push token.
Subscriptions
Subscriptions are sold through the Apple App Store or Google Play and managed with RevenueCat, which records purchase and subscription status against an anonymous identifier generated on your device. We do not send RevenueCat your name, email address, or any content from your entries.
Payment is handled entirely by Apple or Google. We never receive your payment card details.
Your choices
You can decline microphone access, in which case recording is unavailable and the rest of the app still works. You can delete any entry from within the app, export every entry as plain text, delete all entries at once, and remove all app data by deleting the app. For questions about app data, contact support@universoleappstudios.com.
